Checking In

Tue Oct 14, 2008, 11:22 AM
  • Mood: Optimism
  • Listening to: Gogol Bordello
  • Watching: lots of movies
  • Playing: Magic
I thought it would be a good time to check in. I feel like I'm really close to actually creating something pertaining to my original ideas. But until I actually make myself do that, I have plenty of class projects to keep me busy. I really want to post some of those, but I just don't have a 22x30 inch scanner... sorry? I'll try to photograph some and see how they turn out.

I've also started to paint... Gouache paints to be specific. I love it... for some reason I just really get into these paints.

Outside the world of art, I think I'm finally ready to put WoW out of my life. I haven't really played 'religiously' since the end of summer, but I still hop on every once in awhile (and I still pay for it). But I think I want to devote all my efforts into Magic: the Gathering. It feels more rewarding and it's a much more directly social experience. Plus, I think I'm finally getting a solid grasp on the game. I went to a PTQ (Pro-Tour Qualifier) last weekend and made a solid attempt at Top 8, but finished 19th of about 200ish players. My friend and I plan to attend more PTQ's before the season is up and even make an attempt at State's. We'll have to see how that goes.

One more thing... David Bowie came to me in my dreams... I don't know why, or what it means, but it happened.

And no, stop asking, I haven't seen the episode of Flight of the Concords where this happens to one of the main characters.

Hello again. Look forward to seeing you at states. My team is testing an exalted tempo deck. The only sticking point is the lack of a consistent conditional 2 mana counterspell. Love to hear what you are coming up with. Flash me back or catch me on my website (handle: Fugie) that you can get to from my DA homepage.

My team is testing quite a few things right now... we haven't decided what we're running yet though. Our ideas include a couple rogue ideas and w/b aggro, but we might just end up running cruel control. I personally wanna test the kithkin backlash cuz it amuses me.

hehe, exalted tempo sounds exactly like something you'd run. let me know how it goes.

yeah, i canceled my WoW account... not sure how long that will last, but hopefully awhile.

I don't like most modern control decks due to win condition fatigue (you run cheap red guys, kithkin, or green beaters, and that's about it). Plus the conditions on the 2 mana counters suck.

Instead of the 2U cycling force spike (which is strictly inferior to everything they are trying to copy), I can see any u based control had they reprinted the 1U counterspell that rune snags without the stacking 2 mana but also cycled for 2 mana. I believe it is Miscalculation.

I had a strong U/G/r control deck with storage lands that dies without them - r at least makes things harder. Plus it lost Snags and Wall of Roots, both pretty heavy losses.

The thought of Makeshift Mannequin + Empyrial Archangel has bounced around, but there is no reliable way to bin her before turn 4. The closest is the 2B 2/2 who makes everyone discard during your upkeep. He'd be a must in that situation. Otherwise you are 0 for 3'ing yourself against Cryptic Command. That needs a workaround.

Andy said it best. You are either running a goldfish by t4 aggro, or you are running Cryptic Command. That's the problem I can't get around.
